The Top 5 Strangest Deaths in Rock and Roll

The Top 5 Strangest Deaths in Rock and Roll

Here are my personal picks for a Zombie Dream Team - rockers who met surprising, creepy, and just plain gruesome ends:

Please, no! I'm too young to bikeride!

[FIVE]
Christa Päffgen (aka Nico)
believe it or not, did not die from a drug overdose! She fell off of her bike in Ibiza, Spain on July 18, 1988, and hit her head against a wall. A passing cab driver took her to a nearby hospital, where she was misdiagnosed and died the next day from cerebral hemorrhaging. See Nico, you should've just worn the soup can helmet Andy made for you.

[FOUR]
Nick Drake
overdosed on anti-depressants in his parents' home on November 25, 1974. His mother thought he had "gone to get a bowl of cereal" in the early hours of the morning and later found him dead under the covers without a note. The classification of "suicide" remains controversial. Wait a second, I think I may have just found it in a box of Lucky Charms...wouldn't ya know it!

Per Yngve Ohlin (aka Dead)
of Swedish Death Metal group Mayhem took a shotgun to his head on April 8, 1991, after slitting his wrists with a knife that was "too dull." Bandmate Øystein 'Euronymous' Aarseth took photos with a disposable camera and allegedly consumed pieces of Ohlin's brain. Øystein later complained that it could've used more salt.

[TWO]
Ian Curtis
of Joy Division hanged himself in his kitchen after watching Werner Herzog's Stroszek on May 18, 1980. During a recent lecture at The University of Pennsylvania, Herzog was asked to comment on the tragedy. He expressed sorrow and further clarified that "(his) films are not intended to make people kill themselves." Herzog then proceeded to perform a karaoke version of "Love Will Tear Us Apart." Scary.

The Mystery of Phil Taylor Kramer - SOLVED!

The Mystery of Phil Taylor Kramer - SOLVED!

[ONE]
Philip Taylor Kramer
of Iron Butterfly disappeared in February of 1995. Kramer worked as an aerospace engineer and believed himself to be on the cusp of creating faster-than-light telecommunications processes. Conspiracy raged about a government abduction plot. His bones (see below) were found in a roadside ditch, near Malibu, CA, in May of 1999.
Then, Iron Butterfly performed their classic, "Inna Gada da Vida," at his funeral and everyone fell asleep.

Here's to a Happy Halloween!
