The Quintessential Burning Building / Deserted Island Album Quandary

The Quintessential Burning Building / Deserted Island Album Quandary

Allegedly when Lester Bangs' apartment caught fire the one album he saved, out of the thousands in his collection, was Metal Box, by Public Image Limited. That got me thinking about what record I would rescue if my house caught on fire, or if I were destined to spend an indefinite amount of time on a deserted island with only a solar powered record player to keep me company. I can't narrow it down to one album (way too hard) but I can taper my options down to three choices...kind of.

Talking Heads - More Songs About Buildings and Food

Easily makes my top 3. One of my all-time favorite records ever.

Neil Young - Tonight's The Night

Another gimme. This record changed my life the first time I heard it, and it's become somewhat of my musical security blanket.

Bob Dylan - Blood On The Tracks OR Aretha Franklin - I Have Never Loved A Man The Way I Love You

This last choice is a tie. Aretha or Dylan?! It is so hard. I want to say Aretha because she represents the proud, strong voice of a resilient woman. On the other hand, Blood On The Tracks kills me to hear. This is a selection I will have to make in the moment- impulse will decide when the time is right.
