The Go-Betweens: Before Hollywood - An Album Every Fan Of Indie Rock Should Know

The Go-Betweens 1982 album Before Hollywood, is my favorite album by the Australian band. When I was introduced to the record I immediately had to buy it. Unfortunately my instant gratification was delayed as the record was in limbo between out-of-print oblivion and a reissue renaissance. Nonetheless, now it is widely available thanks to an expanded version of the record, released in 2002 with a bonus disc to boot! For fans of pioneering Indie Rock bands, this group is right up your alley. What makes Before Hollywood so unique is that for it's time, it wasn't New Wave, it wasn't Punk, it was a different sound the Go-Betweens created as their own.

Personal favorites off the record include the peppy narrative "On My Block," and the organ-driven album opener, "A Bad Debt Follows You." I did find a video for album's single, "Cattle and Cane" on Youtube. I love the song but I really don't care for the video. If you wanna check it out, you're gonna have to do it on your own.

if you don't already own this record, it's ok. You can buy it right here.
