Surfin' Bird: Cramps Vs Ramones!

Surfin' Bird: Cramps Vs Ramones!

Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow! "Surfin' Bird" was originally a hit in 1963 for The Trashmen. The Ramones and The Cramps both share a passion for black leather and late 50's/ early 60's music. It's no wonder they both ended up covering "Surfin' Bird".

The Ramones' version is ultra-fast of course, and fits perfectly into their signature tight-knit sound. Joey Ramone's nasal New York City sneer gets two knarly thumbs up, especially when the drums wipe out and he brings us back into the fury. The strongest point is the repetitive nature of the song, which lends itself perfectly as a Ramones tune.

The Cramps also assimilate the song with ease, but freak-out on it more than the Ramones do, clocking in at an eccentric five minutes. Singer Lux Interior spouts maniacally, as if riding on waves of hellfire.

Which will it be the dumb-dumbs or the psychpaths? Listen and decide YOUR winner! Then buy the Ramones and/or the the Cramps.
