Lykke Li, Midnight Juggernauts, Hot Lava, Aunt Dracula, Death Set All Playing Philly This Week (and Next)

This week, and into next, it looks like Philly's Johnny Brenda's pretty much has a monopoly on live shows featuring awesome new/semi-new bands. Here's a run-down:

5/6: Lykke Li/El Perro Del Mar @ Johnny Brenda's

These two Swedish songbirds will be gracing JB's with their charming presence and from what I hear they don't disappoint. Lykke Li has been setting the blogs ablaze with her sugary voice and eclectic songwriting, while El Perro Del Mar's sound is a more hushed mix of lush balladry and 60's lounge. Fans of Peter, Bjorn and John should definitely try to catch this one!

5/7: Midnight Juggernauts @ Johnny Brenda's

Do ya dig ELO or David Bowie? If you said yes to either, then Australia's Midnight Juggernauts are your band. Their debut album Dystopia is a space-pop voyage for The Justice set, with whimsical lyrics and inter-galactic production. Sounds like a good show!

5/10: Hot Lava @ ATM (West Philly)

If it's steamy in the ATM basement come Saturday night, then blame it on Hot Lava's fiery and fuzzy pop hits. If you dig smart indie music with clever lyrics then you are advised to attend.

5/10: Aunt Dracula/Hermit Thrushes @ Johnny Brenda's

Sadly, Aunt Dracula's Waffle Wolf is no more, but have no fear my dear freakazoids, Philly's psychedelic mind-fuckers are having their record release show for their debut album Face Peel. So there's a reason to celebrate! Oh but there's more! The angular-pop-scientists Hermit Thrushes will be joining in!

5/13: Death Set/GANG @ Johnny Brenda's

Oh-so-psyched for this! Baltimore's electro-punks The Death Set will be bringing tunes from their recently released album Worldwide, and chances are...you'll be dancing right next to them in a sweaty ball of joy! Also be sure to check out Philly's space-rappin' Klaus Nomi-obsessed foursome GANG.

If you are interested in purchasing tickets to any of the aforementioned shows, head to Johnny Brenda's official site. For more info on the ATM venue, head to their MySpace page. See you in the crowd!
