Love to Love Ya Arthur Lee: Songs from Da Capo
You may want to consider larger glasses Arthur
Rest in Peace Arthur Lee (1945-2007). What a life this man had! For starters he was the front-man and songwriter for the 60s psychedelic California band Love, he spent 6 years in prison for weapons offenses, and in August of this year, he lost his battle against leukemia.
Love seems to be a musicians band or for people who are really into music. Lee's song structures are all over the place as his styles range from straight-up Garage rock to fluffy, candy-coated, fairy-tale ballads. Their third album, Forever Changes, is by far their most popular record, but my favorite is Da Capo.
Released in 1967, this record is their second album and it secured the band musically as a heavy hitter among their contemporaries. The track "Seven & Seven Is," classic Californian pysch. It's short and sweet with fuzzed out, watery guitars, manic drumming, and a Hendrix style vocal shout. The whimsical "She Comes In Colors" features a sensitive, more romantic Lee. You can almost see daisy's flitting about the breeze with this straight-outta-San Franciso sound.
Spread the love, man and pick up the record!
