Italo Disco Overload!!!

Italo Disco Overload!!!

Italo Disco is, in a sense, futuristic European (spec. Italian) disco. It's usually dark and minimalistic with spacey synthesizers, robotic vocals and repetitive beats.

Ever wonder who created those awesome scores for Scarface, Midnight Express or The NeverEnding Story? Well it's the same guy who pioneered Italo Disco...Giorgio Moroder. And he had a hell of a moustache!

Moroder's landmark 1977 moustache, I mean album From Here to Eternity is a continuous stream of dark, sexual dance tracks rooted in psychedelia and inspired by Kraftwerk. It sets the stage for what would eventually be referred to as House Music.

Here he explains his process, but not his moustache:

Since 2000, the genre has been experiencing a revival and these days the label Italians Do It Better has a roster of cool bands that help to keep it alive. The Chromatics, with their awesome new album IV, and Mirage are two such artists that you should check out.

Download a track from all the artists mentioned and also check out the latest video from The Chromatics.

Buy Giorgio Moroder's From Here to Eternity at Amazon.

Purchase Chromatics and Mirage stuff at Italians Do It Better.
