Highly Recommended: Lizz King
The past came to haunt me in the best possible way! Last Spring, at the very end of a show in a stuffy, odd house called Lemon Hill in a crappy area of Baltimore, a girl with just her banjo sat cross-legged on the floor and sang us all to sleep with absolutely beautiful lullabies. Her voice was smooth and soulful, and I snapped her photograph with a yellow glow from the only streetlight shining outside the windows. Her name is Lizz King, and I stumbled upon her MySpace page recently. How fortunate!
It turns out that she is in the process of recording an album in the basement of the same house I saw her perform (now Dan Deacon lives there, but there are no more shows). An official release date has not been set, but keep checking Baltimore's WILDFIRE WILDFIRE Records for news on the horizon.
A Good Memory at Lemon Hill, Baltimore
I've been on a wild internet chase for Lizz King tracks. There are two for download on her MySpace page and some homemade music videos on YouTube.
Here is an obscure mp3 that took me a good couple of hours to track down. I labored over it, because I love you people (collectively and shamelessly), and I also wish Lizz King was around to fix my insomnia.
