Everybody Loves Occult Rock: A Video Sampler

Everybody Loves Occult Rock: A Video Sampler

In the spirit of Halloween, I began snooping around for scary music to post and now I won't be able to sleep. The Occult Rock Library lists 13 of the creepiest records from the 60s and 70s that were dedicated to the Dark Lord and all that goes along with worshiping the Devil. Fun!

The first album mentioned is the 1969 feel-good classic by Coven, Witchcraft Destroys Minds and Reaps Souls. It's kinda like Jefferson Airplane, if they were a Satanic Acid-Rock band:

Jacula is another bunch of Black Magik lovin' Prog-Rockers (although their name sounds too much like Duckula for me to be scared of them.) In Cauda Semper Stat Venenum, their 1969 debut, was released by Gnome Records. Just 310 copies were pressed but not one sold. It wasn't until their 1972 sophmore effort, Tardo Pede In Magiam Versus, that brought their long overdue critical and commercial success. "Absolution" was the single everyone remembers and I can never get it out of my head!

It wouldn't be Halloween without Black Widow! Their 1970 album Sacrifice has been called "the grandfather of all occult rock that has ever followed." This is Jethro Tull-like Jam Band Satanism at it's most eeeeeeevil.

Sleep with the lights on, check under the bed, open the closets and make sure no Satanists are lurking in your Prog-Rock collections!
