Doors Fans Aren't Made, They're Born!
After seeing Kids in the Hall live last night (amazing), I started thinking about my favorite sketches from the original show, and after very careful analysis I have to say that Bruce McCullough's bit where he plays a snobby record store clerk obsessed with The Doors is my favorite of all time. Absolutely brilliant:
I can relate to this character. Granted, I have never stolen or owned a black leather vest and I am definitely a fan of new music, but still, I do believe I was BORN to be a Doors fan. See, I was a bit (ok, very) infatuated with the band in high school. I basically lived and breathed their music. A mammoth, psychedelic poster of frontman Jim Morrison enveloped one of the basement walls at my parents house. Envied by my equally obsessed friends and feared by all of the other posters in the basement, the 4-sided iconic mass actually came to life one night and the voice of Mr. Mojo Risin' personally confirmed the fact that I was a true Doors fan (for reference, see RIP Albert Hofmann, Ghostbusters 2).
Since most of you are familiar with their more popular songs, I have posted some of my favorite, lesser known tracks, as well as the rare, 17 minute epic psych suite "Celebration of the Lizard," which was originally intended to be the flip side of Waiting for the Sun. After all, as Bruce's character so defiantly points out in the above sketch, "Greatest hits album are for housewives and little girls!"
All of the Doors albums are available digitally on Amazon and through their online shop. Viva La Doors!
